Christine Gibbons
Senior Sales Performance ManagerI joined the Group IOT Finance team at Vodafone in 2021, which marked the beginning of my Vodafone career. Before COVID-19 I always looked for jobs within a short commute, so I was always on hand for my two children, but then the pandemic and flexible working arrived, and Vodafone became a viable option for me.
I’d previously held a variety of positions in commercial and finance across a diverse range of industries. I also managed my own accountancy practice. Then, I happily had the chance to join Vodafone, and today my role is as a Senior Sales Performance Manager in the Global Trading Team. I provide sales trading performance reporting and insights to the senior leadership team and then collaborate with the markets and cross functions to support the acceleration of our Group products and services.
Thanks to the sponsorship of Vodafone and my leadership team, I’ve also had the privilege of being part of the Clarity Women in Leadership Programme of 2023/24. This course was highly valuable, providing significant insights into my personal development and enhancing skills crucial for the future success of my career.
What I actually do
As a Senior Trading Performance Manager, I am responsible for accurately reporting the sales trading performance of the Total P&S portfolio. My role involves interlocking our trading position with several local markets, including the UK, EU Cluster, VBI, and Vodacom. I analyse various trading metrics, identify performance trends and insights, provide recommendations on key focus areas, drive acceleration plan activity, and share best practices.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is collaborating with an exceptional group of colleagues across numerous markets and functions. I am particularly passionate about listening to different perspectives, and my position provides me with that valuable opportunity which constantly helps me grow and develop.
An achievement I’m particularly proud of is partnering with the UK team to emphasise the importance of sales specialists in the cloud portfolio using our trading data. I have also supported in the development of our Trading Dashboards which our amazing team of data analysts have created and initiated a central win-loss repository.
Vodafone also gives you the opportunity to participate in various stretch projects alongside your regular job responsibilities. It’s something I cannot recommend enough. It’s excellent for personal development and enables you to connect with colleagues across the organisation who are working towards shared objectives. The one I chose to volunteer for in 2023 was the Earn Customer Loyalty program. As part of this project, I investigated the correlation between revenues and NPS scores. It was a great experience, and I would recommend to anyone in Vodafone to get involved in projects outside of your usual remit to support your career and personal growth.
Are you a member of our Women in Business network?
If not, join now! It’s a fantastic, supportive network with amazing events - being a part of it has had numerous positive impacts on me.
It has broadened my professional connections across the business, enabling me to engage with individuals within the community whom I might not have encountered otherwise. Furthermore, it has provided me with the confidence to step out of my comfort zone, whether that’s applying for roles I previously hesitated to pursue or reaching out to members of the senior leadership team to ask for some of their time to have a career discussion. Everyone has been so accommodating and helpful.
Two notable recent events over the past 12 months for me have been the ‘We Network’ event with Amanda Jobbins and the ‘Chat Show’ with Marika. In both instances, Marika and Amanda shared their career paths, detailing the various challenges they faced and the strategies they employed to overcome them. The conversations were honest and inspiring, showcasing their qualities as exceptional leaders, and I will certainly be taking on learnings from those sessions in my career going forwards.
Another highlight for me was having the opportunity myself to present a session called Defining your Leadership Statement. This followed the work I had undertaken as part of the Clarity Women in Leadership course which I was able to share with the rest of the community and provide some tips to support the network in defining their own leadership statements.
It’s exciting being part of Vodafone’s future
I think the most important thing you can do at Vodafone is network. It’s a big organisation with so many amazing people and so much talent. Everyone is so welcoming - you need never hesitate to connect with others here. And I highly recommend taking advantage of the mentorship program. I’ve been fortunate to find incredible mentors within the business who consistently provide me with valuable advice.
I am really looking forward to continuing my career here at Vodafone. The future for the company is exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of that journey.
