Amy Ross
Onboarding SpecialistI began my Vodafone career while at university, on an industrial placement year. After finishing uni’, I was offered a space on the graduate programme, which saw me move across three HR roles, all just as exciting as the last. Post graduate scheme, I then took up my current permanent role as Onboarding & Experience Specialist. The business has supported me from the start. I’ve been able to experiment, drive change, and develop my own professional skills. None of this would have been possible without encouragement and backing from the outset.
First Steps
At Vodafone, we absolutely understand the challenges and concerns felt by new joiners. We are a large organisation, alive with new projects and initiatives, which can be overwhelming. Starting out at Vodafone should be exciting, not daunting; it should be filled with new information, knowledge and people, yes, but joiners should always feel supported.
We provide thorough training to ensure that new starters feel confident and comfortable in their roles, and we engage with line managers early in the process to make sure that they are ready and that they have their own onboarding plan in place. Our team members are always ready to offer help and guidance, and we encourage open communication and collaboration.
All of this helps to build a strong foundation for our new joiners. Ultimately, providing a good onboarding experience is an investment in all of our future successes. It’s a foundation - a demonstration of our commitment to their success and well-being. It heavily impacts employee engagement and satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and the overall performance and success of Vodafone.
It’s no coincidence that two of the key pillars in our ‘Spirit of Vodafone’ are ‘Get it done, together’ and ‘Experiment and learn fast’. Everyone should understand that there is no such thing as a silly or bad idea, questions are welcomed, new ways of thinking are accepted, and to achieve, we have to work together.
It’s incredibly fulfilling that new joiners often mention how welcoming the onboarding process is, and how it has helped them feel part of the company and its culture. I love being able to create a positive first impression. Setting the tone for their Vodafone journey is a privilege, and it’s truly rewarding to see new joiners take their first steps, settle in, and start making a difference.
