With us, you shape your own path. You will get to know different areas of Vodafone in several stages. Or you can focus on a specific field such as strategy, finance, or IT. The decision is yours. We will support you in developing your potential.

This is how your Discover Trainee Program works
Your start as a trainee
The Discover Trainee Program lasts 18 to 24 months and begins with a structured onboarding process. New trainees start regularly, forming a starter group and growing into the program together. In this phase, you will get to know the other trainees and the trainee community and get a first impression of your home base, the company, and, of course, our campus. An experienced colleague will accompany you as a mentor throughout the program, giving you feedback and supporting you in choosing your next steps.
Flexible stations
After your initial phase, you will choose your subsequent stations independently. Each station lasts approximately three months and gives you the opportunity to get to know new areas of Vodafone. Which ones will you choose? You decide for yourself through active networking within the company. You will talk to teams, find out about possible tasks, and work with managers to find projects that match your interests. What makes this special is that you are not tied to specific departments, but have the unique opportunity to participate in exciting projects throughout the company. Especially at the beginning, your buddy from the circle of experienced trainees will support you and help you find a suitable station.
Community & Networking
During your placements, you can participate in various activities organized by the trainee community. These include networking events such as the Gigasession, where departments present themselves to attract trainees for their projects. After work, trainees meet up for after-work activities such as beach volleyball, padel tennis, or a hot drink together at the Christmas market. The community thrives on your involvement and the implementation of your own ideas, so that colleagues quickly become real friends.
Learning & Development
During the program, you will have a wide range of opportunities for further development. Together with your starter group, you will complete two rounds of personal transformation training: you will meet for three days at our Vodafone Hirschburg facility and reflect specifically on your strengths and areas for development. Communication training and coaching sessions on finding your place and our feedback culture are also an integral part of the program.
You can use around 20% of your working time for training courses, workshops, or internal learning opportunities. You can also take part in shadowing: you accompany a manager, get to know a Vodafone shop, or accompany a technician on on-site appointments. This allows you to develop your skills in a targeted manner and gain exclusive insights into other areas of the company.
Your start after the program
At the end of your trainee program, you can either start in a permanent role at your home base or choose one of the many other positions within the company. You decide which role to choose based on your interests, skills, and experience. The contacts you make during the program will also help you make your decision.
What our trainees say
The Trainee Program is like setting out on a global journey — each step brings new perspectives, meaningful connections, and challenges that help you grow. What makes it unique is the freedom to decide each step yourself, creating a path that truly fits you.
Alexander Overbeck
Discover Trainee
Through the Discover Programme I could transition from research in neuroscience into the world of technology. It’s the perfect chance to apply my analytical skills as a doctoral researcher, prove myself in a new environment, and build expertise in Data Science.
Gunther van Dyk

I wanted a trainee programme that would help me grow my programming skills. At Vodafone I found exactly that, since IT plays a role across all areas. My journey ranged from data science in the consumer space to building internal AI solutions and modern business applications.
Carl Krogmann

Having already completed my Master’s in London, returning for my international rotation was a particular highlight. During this time, I took ownership of an exciting project in Group Strategic Partnerships, directly supporting the Executive Board.
Henrik Stoll

As a Discover trainee, I can experience the wide range of possibilities across all areas of Vodafone and play an active part in shaping them. I would therefore recommend the programme to anyone with a broad range of interests who wants to take on real responsibility and get involved in various topics at a fast pace.

FAQ
Application and selection process
All open trainee positions can be found on this page. Please apply online via the respective job posting and upload all required documents directly with your application.
We usually publish new trainee positions in mid-February. Is your desired position not advertised? Then check back on our job portal at this time at the latest. It is advisable to apply quickly after the advertisement begins: the duration of the advertisement may vary depending on the number of applications. As long as an advertisement is online, applications for the respective home base are possible.
Yes, you can apply for the Discover Trainee Program before you have your final university degree certificate. Just submit it within 6 months of your application.
We consider all factors objectively. Your application documents, your university degree, and the results of the online test are important for the pre-selection process. Each department then decides individually who will be invited to the assessment center. Please note: You can only participate in the assessment center once, even if you submit multiple applications.
The Discover program is structured identically for all trainees. It is worth taking a look at other home bases that suit you or interest you. You are also welcome to apply for several positions at the same time.
We want the selection process to be as simple and quick as possible for you. We will inform you of all important status changes regarding your application. However, due to the high number of applicants and the long-term planning of the selection days, it may take some time before you receive feedback regarding your invitation to the assessment center, depending on when you submitted your application.
No, we take all factors into account when reviewing your application. If you do not have any international experience but can demonstrate practical experience or good academic performance, we would be very happy to receive your application.
The program is generally aimed at master's graduates. If you have a bachelor's degree, you will need an additional two years of relevant practical work experience for us to consider your application. Mandatory internships or working student jobs during your studies do not count toward this requirement.
Contract & Employment
All Discover Trainees receive a permanent employment contract from day one. You decide for yourself in which position you would like to continue working with us after the program.
As a Discover Trainee, your salary is regulated by our collective bargaining agreement. You will also receive vacation pay, a Christmas bonus, and attractive benefits.
Yes, Discover Trainees are also eligible for our attractive employee benefits. These include, for example, a monthly budget of €90, which you can use to get a mobile phone contract including a device or a smartwatch. In addition, Vodafone will pay for your home Internet connection.
You will work for us on a permanent basis and choose a permanent role within or outside your original home base. Various elements of the Discover Trainee Program will help you find a suitable position: you will build a strong network and develop both professionally and personally through training and education. Both a specialist career and a management career are possible after completing the program.
After your time as a Discover Trainee, all opportunities at Vodafone are open to you and you have a guarantee of employment. However, you are not contractually obliged to stay at Vodafone afterwards.
Program structure & locations
The Discover Program primarily takes place at our German headquarters in Düsseldorf. For seminars lasting several days, such as personality training, you will travel to Vodafone Hirschburg near Bonn. However, we strongly encourage all Discover trainees to complete their placements at our other locations in Germany (such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, or Hanover). A placement abroad is also an option. This will be planned in consultation with your mentor, taking your interests into account.
A placement abroad is not a fixed part of the Discover Trainee Program. However, you can proactively request a placement abroad (e.g., in the UK, Belgium, South Africa, or Spain). Whether this works out depends on the general conditions and availability. You can spend up to 10 weeks at an international location. Currently, around 50% of Discover Trainees take advantage of this opportunity.
Yes, you can have a side job as a trainee. Please inform our HR department and obtain the necessary approval.
As part of the Discover Trainee Program, we promote your professional and personal development. For example, you will complete two training courses lasting several days at our Vodafone Hirschburg with your starter group and an external expert. You will take part in communication training and we offer HR training on various career topics. There are also regular upskilling sessions in the trainee community. This allows you to exchange ideas with departments and managers outside your home base.
As a trainee, you will receive comprehensive support from us, so that you have the right contact person at your side for every question or decision. Your buddy is an experienced trainee who will make your start easier with insider tips and be there for you as an equal. Your mentor provides strategic vision: he or she is at your side, opens doors in their own network, advises you on your choice of placements, and plans your long-term career with us. Our program management team provides the framework for your training: they support you throughout the entire period and are your central point of contact for all organizational questions.
