All Vodafone shops are climate neutral

The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. That is why we are now taking the next step towards climate neutrality. Our own shops are climate-neutral and we were the first telecommunications company in Germany to achieve this. Our green shop concept revolves around environmentally friendly resources & digital alternatives. Plus, we also compensate for the 3,000 tonnes of CO2 produced by our more than 150 Vodafone shops every year.

There are still many professions where people have a gender specific mentality and approach. There are also often more men in the Vodafone shops, especially in managerial positions. To consciously counteract this trend, we tested the first GIGAWomen branch in Düsseldorf for three months in autumn 2019.

“Diverse human resources strategies are essential in tech-focused jobs. Because diversity enables us to respond even better to our customers and to generate new impulses,” says Romina Schiattarella, Area Store Manager, who was part of the pilot. The Schadowplatz branch was staffed exclusively by women and their male colleagues worked in surrounding shops during the pilot phase. The first few days were strange. Because we are used to working in mixed teams. But customers thought it was great, especially the women. Because they prefer to come to female staff with their “stupid” questions. The respect for male staff is sometimes very high in this respect.

Be the boss

Trainees manage a branch: We have once this traditional Vodafone project possible for Vodafone’s young talent once again, despite Covid-19. “We really wanted to revive the Trainees Manage Branches project,” says Area Manager Romina Schiattarella. “During the casting, we selected a suitable Store Manager along with two Deputy Store Managers from among our trainees. The rest of the team served as sales agents.”

Running an entire shop is far more than just theory and practice together. This is real life. The task aims to increase the trainees’ sense of responsibility. This gave them the opportunity to try things out and grow. So, we put our trust in them and show them how valuable they are.
