Finding Purpose and People at Vodafone

Emmajane Byrne
HR People & Projects Team

When I first applied to Vodafone, it was the Purpose Pillars; Planet, Inclusion for All, and Digital Society, that really caught my attention. They aligned so closely with my own values that it felt like a perfect fit from the start.

Today, I work in HR as a Projects and Data Insights Specialist, based in the Mountainview Office. My journey here began on the Graduate Programme, and since then, it’s been a journey filled with connection, continuous learning and purpose

Purpose with People at the Core

Vodafone’s culture is centred around people and connection, both for our customers and for each other. That focus was obvious from day one. One moment that stands out is when I helped coordinate the IRFU squad’s visit to Mountainview as part of my first rotation in Internal Comms. It was such a great day, kids FaceTimed their parents with Johnny Sexton and Peter O'Mahony, jerseys were signed, and colleagues were throwing passes with the IRFU women’s squad. It was the day I saw our brand and sponsorship truly come alive, and it reminded me just how much pride and connection runs through this company.

Balancing the Everyday

Vodafone’s hybrid working policy has genuinely transformed my work-life balance. As a commuter from Wexford, being able to start early and get into a focused groove has made all the difference. The atmosphere in the office shifts as the day unfolds, turning into a hub of collaboration and connection once everyone arrives.

And then there’s the on-site gym, which has been a game changer. With classes running from early morning into the afternoon, I can take a mental break, recharge, and come back to work more focused and energised. It’s also helped me hit a few personal fitness milestones which is always a bonus.

Supported to Grow

Since joining Vodafone, I’ve been lucky to receive consistent encouragement and support. I started as a HR Data and Systems Lead under the guidance of Petra Kaszás, whose experience across two Vodafone markets was invaluable. That experience prepared me to step into my current role, where I now work closely with our Head of People, Sandra Fitzgibbon, who brings forward-thinking leadership and has been a huge influence on my growth.

One of the skills I’m most proud to have developed is helping to instil trust in our people data. By improving data quality and enhancing systems like SuccessFactors, I’m contributing to better insights and decision-making for the business. It’s a skill I’m still sharpening, but it’s one that excites me every day.

Driving Meaningful Change

This year, I had the opportunity to work with our IT team to reshape Vodafone’s Payroll IT architecture. It was a big, complex project involving stakeholders from Vodafone Ireland, Vodafone Romania, and VOIS India—but what made it special was the shared sense of purpose and teamwork. Everyone came in with a getitdone together attitude, and seeing that level of collaboration across markets is something I’ll never forget. We hit our targets, stayed on schedule, and delivered something that genuinely strengthens our operations.

What Keeps Me Going

At the core of everything I do is impact, on people, on systems, and on how we show up as a company. We’re not just delivering products or services at Vodafone, we’re keeping people connected. And that connection shows up not just in external interactions, but in the way we work with friends, family, and colleagues every day.

What motivates me is knowing that I can help create meaningful change, both in the data we rely on and the ways we work as a team. With every project, I get to reinforce that impact, and that’s what drives me.

With you, we can connect people to a better future
