Exploring Innovation and Opportunity at Vodafone

Ashish Paunarkar
Digital & IT Lead

Since joining Vodafone through the graduate programme, my journey has been exciting, challenging, and deeply rewarding. I’ve always admired Vodafone, from my early days in India, where it was a standout brand, to now working across borders in Europe. The company’s strong international presence and its commitment to social and environmental responsibility are what initially drew me in, and those values continue to resonate with me every day.

Right now, I’m based in Dublin, working as a D&IT Lead. I’m currently on assignment in Tirana, Albania, where I’m leading innovative projects like GenAI, an experience that’s expanded my global perspective and helped me grow both personally and professionally.

I’ve felt a strong sense of belonging from the start

One of the things that’s stood out to me at Vodafone is the culture. It’s inclusive, collaborative, and focused on continuous learning. Spirit Days, for example, have helped me connect with people beyond our day-to-day roles, through activities like hikes and volunteering, I’ve built relationships and felt truly part of a community.

The flexibility offered through hybrid working has also been a big contributor to my work-life balance. Having dedicated time in the office while also having space to work remotely allows me to stay focused and recharged.

The support for growth has been phenomenal

I’ve been lucky to be part of the Future IT Leadership (FITL) Programme, which has had a huge impact on my development. It’s offered me leadership training and allowed me to work across different markets. That’s how I ended up here in Albania, getting hands-on experience leading the GenAI rollout and previously managing the OneFrontEnd programme, where I coordinated across five countries, built governance structures from the ground up, and presented results to senior leadership.

What has made this experience even more special is the support I’ve received from mentors and managers throughout. My CIO and other leaders have given me guidance that’s helped me transition from a purely technical background into a broader project management role. That kind of trust and empowerment is something I really value.

Innovation is where I thrive

My role lets me explore technology that’s not just exciting but transformative. One of the projects I’m proud of is a real-time call summarization tool we introduced through GenAI. It’s helping frontline agents save time on note-taking so they can focus more on customers. Knowing that we’re rolling out tools that make people’s jobs easier and improve customer experience is what drives me. There’s also great momentum around scaling these innovations to other markets, and I’m excited by the potential of cross-country collaboration as we move forward.

Making an impact that matters

Whether it’s through the OneFrontEnd programme, the coverage maps initiative I led in Big Data Engineering, or GenAI, I know that the work I’m doing is improving processes, helping my colleagues, and delivering better service to customers.

One of the most motivating things about being here is knowing that what I do has real impact. I love working in the telecom space because it connects people, and being part of something that helps make lives easier and more connected is incredibly meaningful to me.

Looking ahead

The journey so far has been energising, and what’s kept me going is the culture of support and innovation. I’ve had incredible opportunities to grow, but I’ve also had people around me who want to see me succeed.

I’m looking forward to continuing this path, finding new ways to drive positive change, expanding into new markets, and helping Vodafone stay at the forefront of digital transformation. It’s been an amazing experience so far, and I’m excited to see what’s next.
