Growing with Vodafone: My Journey in the Mergers & Acquisitions Tax Team

When I joined Vodafone in January 2024, I was looking for a new challenge — somewhere I could apply my tax experience in a truly international environment and be part of a brand that’s recognised around the world. Today, as a Senior Tax Manager, I can confidently say the experience has exceeded my expectations.

My role and the team’s impact

I work in Vodafone’s International Tax Team, focusing on Mergers & Acquisitions and related restructuring projects. Our role is to provide international tax advice and support; essentially helping the business grow and strengthen through strategic transactions.

Tax is a key consideration in every deal, and our team’s work ensures Vodafone’s decisions are commercially sound, sustainable, and aligned with the company’s global strategy. It’s exciting to know that what we do directly impacts Vodafone’s growth and future direction.

Tax is anything but boring

Coming from a background in practice, this was my first role in industry and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. There’s a common misconception that moving into an in-house tax role means less variety or excitement compared to working in practice. I can safely say that hasn’t been the case here.

At Vodafone, no two days are the same. The range of projects is incredibly broad, and the work is both technically challenging and commercially impactful. It’s definitely not boring!

Highlights and milestones

A personal milestone for me was being promoted to Senior Tax Manager in June 2025, just 18 months after joining. The support I received from the team throughout that journey was amazing, everyone genuinely wants to see each other succeed.

Many of the projects we work on make it into the press. It’s always rewarding to see a transaction you’ve contributed to being talked about publicly — it’s a reminder that our work really matters.

What I enjoy most about working here

The variety and complexity of the work keeps things interesting, but it’s the people that make the biggest difference. The Tax team at Vodafone is full of intelligent, experienced professionals who are always willing to share their knowledge and help solve challenging problems. It’s a collaborative environment where you’re constantly learning and growing.

If you’re considering a career in Tax, my biggest piece of advice is don’t underestimate how interesting tax can be! It develops your critical thinking, technical research, and problem-solving skills. It’s a chance to make a tangible impact on major business decisions from the very start of your career.
