Ahmed Sayed-Mohamed
Data & Fixed Tech Support ManagerI am passionate about leveraging technology to create value and enhance user experiences, so I really enjoy my current role at Vodafone. As Data and Fixed Technical Support Associate Manager, I leverage analytics to identify patterns and optimise processes for continuous improvement, constantly implement proactive measures to improve network stability, and also oversee the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to meet company goals.
This role has allowed me to develop strong leadership skills, as well as an extensive understanding of technical support operations. It is just the latest step in my journey at Vodafone, which since 2008 has provided me with continuous opportunities to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and service improvements and achieve significant professional growth.
Solving pain points with innovation
My team at Vodafone is responsible for ensuring that our customers experience reliable and efficient service from Vodafone's fixed line offerings. We work to anticipate customer needs, and to ensure seamless customer interactions and quick as possible response times.
In (2024) I had an idea to solve one of the main issues with DSL service (authentication) by finding a way to report any failure in the authentication cycle and design a machine/robot to fix it. My solution allowed for real-time monitoring and rapid response to potential disruptions in service, and now we can report any failure from the RADSIU database and fix it within five minutes with the support of Vodafone’s technology team.
This innovation has significantly enhanced our customer satisfaction by minimising downtime and reducing the need for technician visits. Above all, it really underscores the importance of using technology to drive customer-centric solutions! I’m really proud of it.
Achieving a complete migration with zero service interruption
One of the biggest challenges I have ever faced is when Telecom Egypt decided to migrate the data of 850K Vodafone DSL customers in 2023. I was given the responsibility of minimising downtime and customer impact during the 6 months the migration was scheduled to take place. I had to train my team to deal with such an aggressive action, and made a plan to handle all migration phases during overnight windows. The team also had to integrate new technological solutions to enhance performance and scalability.
Luckily, with meticulous planning and coordination, we managed to achieve a seamless transition that went unnoticed by customers. Overcoming all of the obstacles required a collaborative effort and innovative problem-solving skills, but despite the hurdles, the project was completed within the allocated time and budget.
Its success was largely due to maintaining open lines of communication and regular updates with all stakeholders. It demonstrated the importance of collaboration between departments and with external partners, and highlighted the importance of maintaining positive morale even through the more demanding phases of the project.
The greatest achievement of this project was not only maintaining uninterrupted service but also enhancing the overall system efficiency post-migration. Additionally, it provided valuable insights into optimising data migration strategies for future initiative and showcased the potential for leveraging advanced technology to streamline complex processes efficiently.
Right now I’m managing a critical new project, the FTTH migration project. We are converting our fixed infrastructure from copper to FTTH, with one of the biggest challenges upgrading DSL CPE software to be suitable for new technology. The successful completion of our DSL migration project set a new benchmark for our team's capabilities, so we are working hard to deliver with similar success once again.
Working at Vodafone
My favourite thing about working for Vodafone is the dynamic and inclusive culture. It really encourages innovation, creativity, and collaboration, and continuously fosters professional growth.
Employees are provided with numerous opportunities for skill development and career progression, and our wellbeing is highly supported. We also have the chance to engage with international projects and cultures thanks to Vodafone’s global presence. It truly is such a rich environment.
Moreover, for me, being part of a company committed to digital transformation, digital inclusion and connectivity worldwide is truly inspiring. This is something that deeply aligns with my personal values, and in the long term I aim to make a significant impact in this field as well as in my wider industry.
