Islamophobia Awareness Month
Meet Jamaal, he joined Vodafone as part of the Discover Graduate Scheme during the pandemic. He has recently completed the scheme and successfully landed a role as a Delivery Manager.
"I was shocked to learn that almost half of the religious hate crime in England & Wales is directed at Muslims, a stat, I find not many people are aware of. Coming from a minority ethnic it is great working at a company as culturally diverse as Vodafone, and the inclusivity across the company is brilliant to see."
Jamaal has participated in Vodafone's REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) Reciprocal Mentoring programme which pairs colleagues from an ethnic minority background with a Senior Leader. The relationship provides an opportunity to aid their understanding of the lived experience of our ethnically diverse colleagues to build empathic leadership and valuable inputs for decision-making from the next generation of leaders.
Nearly half of all religious hate crimes are directed at Muslims
Vodafone is committed to playing its part in raising awareness. Did you know that recently published reports showed that…
- CVs submitted under a non-Muslim name are three times more likely to be offered an interview than those with a Muslim name
- Muslims are more likely to be the victim of religious hate crime than any other religious group
In a recent survey carried out on British adults, 43% said they would be concerned if a mosque was built near them - 17% of the mosques in the UK have experienced an attack in the last 3 years and the imams have been subjected to physical assault including stabbing
Inclusion for All is huge part of how we’re driving to become the #1 place to work, and we’re working towards making our workplace as inclusive as possible, from flexible working, providing a space for Muslim employees to pray, and removing unconscious bias in our recruitment methods.
We stand in solidarity with Muslims against Islamophobia and hate crimes
