Role Purpose

The Software Engineer in Test’s mission is identifying risk and defects within software components over the whole Software Development Life Cycle to ensure and improve quality.

Senior SETs are called to design, implement and maintain a solid Automation architecture to be thought as strategic Software Project within the company.

Based on development experience, knowledge of application patterns and design, Software Engineer in Test are required to design and automate tests for digital applications: web apps, native application, web services, internal tooling and automation, or voice/conversational interfaces.
SETs are responsible to identify the best tool to be used depending on the application and the specific test to be performed.

Technical proficiency and fluency over the above is required from a Senior SET, so that the team can benefit from the technical and organizational leadership; Senior SETs take a leading role also in task breakdown & planning, reporting to business, design of shared tools and processes for testing,  and mentoring junior colleagues.

SETs are customer advocates who drive to a quality-first approach by understanding end-user expectations. Hence, they will also liaison and curate the requirements elicitation, documentation, and traceability towards the business objectives.

The deep knowledge of the applications from an end-user point of view enables Software Engineer in Test to assists in operations support, including providing L2 and L3 incident and problem support, and design and maintain real-time reporting to ensure observability and control of the quality metrics (defects, rejection rate, code coverage, time to resolution).

Key accountibilities and decision ownership

•    Design and implement acceptance tests for user and technical stories 
•    Test and validate solution against user story and technical story acceptance criteria, leveraging automated tools & practices
•    Execute manual and automated tests and report defects on product builds 
•    Work closely with development in SCRUM teams to resolve product issues on a daily basis 
•    Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to ensure adherence to design quality and coding standards 
•    Identify, record, and monitor testing bugs 
•    Track quality assurance metrics, such as defect density and early life incidents 
•    Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities 
•    Manage incidents and problems as level two and level three support 
•    Planning, tech leadership and mentoring of junior colleagues.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience

•    BsC in Computer Science, Engineering or any STEM
•    At least 5 years in a Development role for Software products or
•    At least 4 years in a Quality Assurance role for Software products
•    Preferred Certifications:

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

•    Requirements Management & Traceability
•    Experience in Automated Testing tools for Web, Cloud and App: one or more among
•    Selenium, Cucumber, Calabash, UiPath, Appium, Katalon Studio, TestNG
•    Defect&Test Mgmt (we’re deep in JIRA, but also ALM/Remedy)
•    Exploratory testing: cURL, Postman, Insomnia
•    Nice To Have: Wireshark, JMeter, Gherkin structured testing, Accessibility & Usability, UX User Test
